What in the world is ChatGPT and why should you care?

ChatGPT is a HOT topic right now in the world of marketing and tech.

And for good reason.

If you haven’t stumbled across a conversation about ChatGPT online yet, it won’t be long before you do.

ChatGPT is basically AI software that can answer pretty much any question in a long answer format. GPT stands for Generative Pre-Training Transformer. It is a language model, developed by OpenAI. It was specifically designed around natural language and conversation. This means when you put in conversational questions you get “human-like” responses. It is pretty mindblowing to watch in action!

How is ChatGPT different from our search engines, such as Google and Bing?

ChatGPT is a language model that can generate text and answer questions, while Google and Bing are search engines that help users find information on the internet.

ChatGPT is designed to generate human-like text based on the input it receives. It can be used for tasks such as language translation, text summarization, and question answering. It can also be fine-tuned for specific tasks such as chatbot development or content creation.

Google and Bing, on the other hand, are search engines that are designed to help users find information on the internet by searching for keywords and returning relevant web pages. They use complex algorithms to rank and organize the search results based on relevance and popularity.

Here are a couple of examples of things I put into ChatGPT to show you what it can do:

What I also find super interesting is that it gave me a different answer the last time I asked about the activities for kids, even though I used the exact same wording to ask the question. This AI is really leading the way.

Application and impact of ChatGPT for Business

The application of ChatGPT is endless for marketers and businesses alike. ChatGPT can be integrated into chatbot systems, messaging platforms and other applications to provide automated, human-like interactions with users. It is revolutionising content creation, customer service and who knows other applications users will come up with!

Don’t take my word for it, here is what ChatGPT had to say about why businesses should care about this programme:

“Businesses need to care about chatgpt because it allows them to automate customer service interactions and provide instant responses to frequently asked questions. This can improve customer satisfaction and save time and resources for the business. Additionally, chatgpt can be used for lead generation and sales, as it can engage with potential customers and guide them through the purchasing process. It can also assist with marketing and content creation, by generating personalised and engaging content for social media and other platforms. Overall, chatgpt can provide businesses with a more efficient and effective way to interact with customers and drive business growth.”

Though conversations are being had around how they will monetize the service (as running servers like this come with HUGE costs), it is likely that even if/when it does become a paid service, ChatGPT is changing the landscape and will be a great investment in your business for the future. This prototype version only launched in November 2022, so big things are still to come!

I highly recommend keeping your eye on ChatGPT, you can sign up for a free account (currently free) here: https://chat.openai.com/ and have a play. It is super impressive!

If you can’t log in or create an account with ChatGPT

ChatGPT sometimes can’t process questions or allow users to sign up for new accounts (or login to existing ones), this is due to the huge demand on their servers at the moment. They are working to improve the tool all the time.

What I recommend if you can’t create an account or log in and get a screen like this one below, is that you try two things:

  1. Try using an incognito browser
  2. If that doesn’t work try again at a different time of day

I had tried to sign up for the waitlist email mentioned on the website when I first joined, but I found it faster to try a few hours later, and then I had no problem creating an account and getting started.
