Things to do to improve your business during self-isolation.

We all agree that social isolation is the best thing for the country at the moment, but it is definitely not the best thing for most businesses. The concept of having to shut the doors on your business for at least 4 weeks is extremely daunting. During this time of lessened income and next to no business, it can be easy to just snuggle up on the couch with a good book or binge watch your favourite series on Netflix. Though we recommend using some of this time to relax, catch up on chores around the house and spend time with family, it is also the perfect opportunity to work on parts of your business that normally get put on the back burner. Here are some of our top tips on ways to improve your business during this period of self-isolation:

  1. Improve your social media marketing strategy.

All too often we see businesses neglect their social media platforms as they tend to get lost in the hustle and bustle of every day activities. Use this time to revamp your social media strategy by rewriting your bio, changing your profile pictures and creating new posts that your audience will love. Use a tool such as Hootsuite or Facebook Page Manager to schedule posts for further down the track. You could create months’ worth of social media posts in only a few hours, leaving plenty of time to work on the day-to-day operations of your business once the self-isolation period has been lifted.

  1. Do an online course.

There are plenty of free online courses out there for you to do while you’re stuck at home. Maybe you aren’t completely sure how to use your POS system? Or maybe you want to brush up on your accounting skills? Keeping the brain working while you’re stuck at home is also a great way to look after your mental health! (Also check out our free SEO course!)

  1. Work on your website and its content.

Time spent online has already skyrocketed since people have begun to self-isolate, so it is likely that more and more people will be looking at your website. Your website will act as your business’s temporary storefront so it is important to make sure that it is working perfectly and all of your content is up to date. Keeping your site fresh will also help to improve your SEO.

  1. Improve your phone skills.

Does the idea of making a phone call still give you butterflies? We completely understand! Use this time to improve your phone calls through practice, practice, practice! Write out a rough script and get your family members to pretend to be clients so you can refine your phone skills.

  1. Make it a time of creativity, inspiration and ideas.

This alone time is great for thinking, planning and generating new ideas. Maybe your logo or slogan needs a refresh? Or how about you come up with an updated menu? Whatever your business, use this time to think outside of the box and make some creative changes.

We hope that these tips will help make this period of self-isolation a little less daunting for businesses. Use this time for a bit of self-care as well, it will be reflected in the work you do on your business. Remember that we are always here to help and answer any questions you may have. Lets all make the most of being in self-isolation, and we will see you all on the other side!
